--------------

Name: Shi'An Lun
Age: 62 (appears ~20)
Birthday: 29th Arrival
Gender: Female
Height: 5'6''
Race: Wood Elf

Class: Bard
Occupation: Travelling Performer
City: Estraude
Allegiance: Miras Kingdom

Personality:
[ talkative | easygoing | independent | naive | optimistic | proud ]

There's really no such thing as peace and quiet when Shi'An is around. Even when she's not busy fiddling with her instrument, the young woman is an enthusiastic chatterbox who will easily talk a person's head right off with just a little prompting. On her topic of expertise--string music--she can occasionally come off as cocky in a way that most people find to be off-putting. Avoid the subject though, and conversations with her are generally quite pleasant. She's exceedingly friendly, and quite prone to striking up conversations with complete strangers. As a result, she also has a knack for sweet-talking her way into things.

The young elf is quite proud of her ability to be self-sufficient, and feels immensely uncomfortable with the idea of being in debt to anyone. Setting off on her own for the first time has made her all the more determined to not ask for help, as she wants to prove--to herself, mostly--that she is capable of surviving on her own. Having rarely left her home city in her 62 years, Shi'An is still very naive to the ways of the world. While aware that wood elves are not liked by their dark elf cousins, she still maintains a foolish optimism that the level of animosity she has been warned about is greatly exaggerated. As the result of living a rather lax and stress-free lifestyle up until this point, Shi'An possesses little to no sense of urgency concerning anything, and takes life at her own sweet pace.

History:
Shi'An was born to a family of music lovers. From a young age, she was immersed in song and music theory, and it wasn't long before she herself picked up an instrument to try. The girl was no prodigy, by any means, but the long lifespan of an elf also meant that she had quite a bit of time to practice and perfect her art. Her parents, while encouraging, preferred to let her learn for herself as to not become too overbearing.

For a long time, it was just a hobby--something that the girl picked up on occasion when business at the family's restaurant was slow. Aware of the fact that her playing was still amateurish at best, Shi'An would sneak around to the back of the building to fiddle with her pipa. Sometimes she'd try to play new music she'd heard around the city, but more often than not, the girl would try to compose her own work. None of it was ever enough to satisfy her though, so she would chuck them in the corners of her room. Eventually, the sheet music would begin to accumulate to the point that her room felt like an explosion of paper. She never really thought much of it though--after all, it was just something she did to kill time.

With no interest in running the family restaurant, a seventeen-year-old Shi'An turned her focus towards becoming a healer. Her abilities had manifested themselves--albeit quite weakly--by then, and she seized upon the opportunity to do something other than waiting tables every day. Along with several other young wood elves, she spent several years learning the basics of the healing arts under one of the city's clerics until she could be considered a qualified healer in her own right.

Between helping out at the restaurant and learning healing magic, Shi'An soon found that she had little time to focus on much else. Her stringed pipa sat gathering dust in the far corner of the room for years before she eventually picked it up again one day. By that point, playing the instrument had become nothing more for her than an outgrown hobby--or so she thought, until she absently plucked at the strings again. The sounds resonated with the love of music that she'd long forgotten about, and it came crashing down on her again with the weight of all the years it had been neglected. She took up playing again immediately after, even sacrificing what few breaks she had in her schedule to do so.

As Shi'An grew into adulthood, her musical talent began to flourish and it soon became clear that her songs was starting to take on rejuvenating properties. Elated that her playing had been able to come so far, Shi'An worked hard to consolidate her two talents. It took a long time before there were any concrete results to show for her work, but eventually, she was able to reach a point where her music could be used effectively as a means for healing. Eager to continue cultivating her skills, Shi'An planned to set off for the first time on her own to test her abilities, expose herself to different styles of music, and finally see the world with her own two eyes. Her family was concerned with the thought of her travelling alone in such tense political climates, but Shi'An eventually managed to reassure them. Still a bit reluctantly, they gave their blessings.

Having just set out on her journey, she intends to make her way to Belport and join the city's famous Performing Arts Society. Rather than head straight there though, she intends to take the winding, scenic route in hopes of exposing herself to different styles of music (and of course, cultures) along the way. Shi'An left home with a decent amount of money and not a whole lot of forethought however, so more often than not, she will take detours to the closest towns and villages and offer up her services (either of the musical or healing variety) in exchange for food and shelter. When her travels leave her without a roof over her head, as they are wont to do, she will either pitch a tent or sleep under a tree. Weather permitting, she prefers the latter option as it requires less work on her part.

Upcoming: Several weeks into her journey, she comes across a travelling entertainment troupe and manages to talk herself into their ranks. It is initially a temporary position, as Shi'An intended to leave them upon reaching Belport, but time spent together with the other performers has left her with the conclusion that staying long-term might not be so bad.

Additional info:
- Her real hair color is chestnut brown. She dyes it to stand out more, particularly when performing.
- The shaved side of her head was something of a happy accident. A particularly uneven hair cut left her frustrated to the point that she got rid of all the hair on the left side of her head--only to find that she actually preferred it that way.
- Her instrument of choice is the stringed pipa. Similar to a guitar in appearance, it is more pear-shaped and plucked rather than strummed.
